It is said that, starting July 15, 2026, foreigners in Slovakia on family reunification visas will be able to work without approval from the Úrad práce.
But there’s a very important detail here.zlúčenie rodinyThis is not a general rule that applies to everyone who has received a residence permit through family reunification.
The standard rule remains as follows: if a person has a residence permit under < 1 >, they must still go through the Úrad práce within 9 months of the permit’s issuance in order to find employment.
The new relaxation, however, applies to a specific category: people who were granted temporary asylum due to the war in Ukraine and who are transitioning to a residence permit through a special transitional mechanism.
In other words, don’t confuse these two different situations.
If you are an employer or someone with a family reunification residence permit, be sure to check the following before hiring: whether this is a standard family reunification case or a transition following temporary protection.
Because a mistake here could cause problems for the employer and put the employee at risk regarding their paperwork.
