6 most delicious Slovak dishes

Slovak cuisine is quite hearty and is a mixture of Austrian, Hungarian, Czech and German cuisines 🍽

What dishes would we put on a list called “Worth a Must Try”?

🍲 Garlic chowder

An interesting puree soup that you can appreciate even if you don’t like garlic or soups. It is based on garlic, broth, flour, cream and spices.

🍲 Galushki

Slovak halushki are made of potato dough. They can be served with bryndza, bacon, crackers or cabbage.

🍲 Cabbage Patch

This soup includes, in addition to cabbage, mushrooms, sausage and paprika. This dish is often modified by adding potatoes, apples, smoked meat or plums.

🥞 Loksha

Thin pancakes made of potato dough, a favorite of Slovaks. The pancakes are flavored with cheese and meat stuffing, and they like to be served with roast duck. But there are also sweet variants: with sugar, poppy seeds and marmalade.

🥞 Strudel

Usually apples, honey and walnuts are added to the classic Slovak strudel. Despite the similar recipe, it goes without saying that for the Slovaks themselves, their strudel always tastes better than Viennese strudel.

🥞 Trdelnik (this dish is exactly what is pictured in the photo)

Yeast dough tubes that are sprinkled with sugar, nuts and cinnamon. Traditionally, they are cooked over an open fire and on a wooden spit. In Slovak cafes, you can often enjoy a trdelnik dipped in chocolate/caramel, topped with fruit, sweet paste or a scattering of confit.
