Today, 26 December, the first series of vaccines against Covid-19 has arrived in the Slovak Republic ![]()
The supplier was the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer. So far, 10,000 doses have been delivered. But Slovakia has booked a total of 18 million doses.
The vaccine has arrived at the University Hospital in Nitra, in western Slovakia. From there, it will be delivered to other regions. The logistics are well thought out in advance to ensure that all storage conditions are carefully observed.
First, employees in direct contact with persons at risk will be vaccinated. Then elderly people, cancer patients, patients with chronic diseases. In the 3rd wave: teachers, homeless people, asylum seekers will be vaccinated.
But by early April, the vaccine should be available to all adults.
The first to receive the drug will be Slovak epidemiologist Professor Vladimir Krčmeri
The vaccination of health workers in Bratislava, Banska Bystrica, Nitra and Košice will start tomorrow, 27 December.
After the medical staff, the plan is to vaccinate social service workers and critical infrastructure workers (soldiers, police officers, firefighters and others).
The drug will be administered intramuscularly, in the shoulder
The vaccination will take place in two stages, the second 21 days after the first.
The procedure is completely voluntary and free of charge. More than 3 million people (65% of the population) are expected to be vaccinated.
So we’re holding our cams and hoping that all the lockdowns, coronacrisis and Covid-19 itself will soon be behind us.
