Transport in Slovakia types, tickets

What is the best transportation to travel in Slovakia and beyond? Where to buy tickets 🤔

✈️ Flights

There are 6 international airports in Slovakia: in Bratislava, Košice, Poprad, Sliač, Piešťany, and Žilina (Dolny Hrichov village).

All have their own specifics. For example, the airport in Sliač is more for military needs. The first 3 airports are most often used for international flights from Slovakia.

However, Slovakia is a small country, so the number of destinations and the number of departures is limited. Therefore, many people fly through Vienna Airport. And it is very convenient: only 40 minutes from Bratislava, no checks at the border.

Information about flights from Slovakia can be found at www.slovak-airports.net.

🚄 Trains, trains, and buses

Slovakia has a well-developed network of bus and train lines. These are quite popular modes of transportation for getting around in the country and traveling abroad. For more information about flights, see here 👉 www.cp.sk.

Electric trains usually provide connections between a major city and surrounding communities. You can buy a ticket in advance at the train station or directly on the train from the conductor.

There are fast trains between cities. The fastest are Intercity. You should buy tickets in advance at the station or on the websites www.slovakrail.sk and www.zsr.sk.

There are commuter buses that travel short distances. Tickets are purchased from the driver when boarding. It is better to worry about tickets for intercity buses in advance. It is possible to reserve them at the bus station or online.

🚢 Motorboats, boats

Motorboats and private boats ply the rivers Danube, Váh, Morava, and Tisza. They offer sightseeing tours, cruises to wine regions, and weekend trips. Water transportation can be used to travel to other countries: Austria, Germany, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, etc.

Tickets are usually bought at the piers or at travel agencies.

🚍 Urban public transportation

Within a particular city, you can travel by trolleybuses, streetcars, and buses. For this, you need a travel card, or you can buy a ticket in special machines on buses and at bus stops. There are also applications for buying tickets online.

You can find information about specific flights and tickets here 👉 www.imhd.sk If in Bratislava, here 👉 www.dpb.sk.

Of course, road travel is no problem either 😉
