🍽️ Kapustnica.

This is a hearty soup made of sauerkraut, sausage, mushrooms, and various spices. It’s hard to find a Slovak family that doesn’t make kapustnica at Christmas.

🍽️ Carp dishes

Carp is a traditional Christmas fish in Slovakia. It is usually baked in the oven with vegetables or in a sour cream sauce. Equally popular is the thick fish soup (Rybačka), which is popularly prepared on Christmas Eve.

🍽️ Lokša (Lokša).

Thin pancakes made of potato dough with various fillings: sauerkraut, minced meat, duck meat, jam, etc. Sometimes they are served without filling, sprinkled with poppy seeds, powdered sugar, or soaked in melted butter.

🍽️ Nut cake (Orechovník)

A sweet pie filled with ground nuts and flavored with rum or brandy. It is traditionally served at Christmas.

🍽️ Strudel

Slovak strudels are usually characterized by a wide variety of fillings and a combination of different ingredients in the filling: apple, poppy seeds, and nuts or cottage cheese with buttercream, raisins, and others.
