In order to become a citizen of Slovakia, you must have lived in the country for at least 8 years.
⏳ The time immediately preceding the application for citizenship is taken into account.
So first you apply for a residence permit, then you apply for a permanent residence permit, and then you can apply for citizenship 🧑💼
Of course, it would be much better to get citizenship at once. But still there is a sense in such requirements. You have to agree, if they gave citizenship to everyone, it would be suspicious. It’s important to make sure that you really want to stay here and are able to do some good for the country, not just enjoy its benefits.
