Devin is one of the most visited attractions in Slovakia 🏰
These are the ruins of an ancient fortress, the first records of which date back to 864. But scientists assume that the fortress was built much earlier.
Once there was a Roman observation point 🏹 The fortress also served as a stronghold for the Prince of Savoy in the battle with the Ottomans. By the way, the Turks failed to capture it. It was Napoleon’s army that actively participated in the destruction of the castle.
Devin has also been in the role of the border of the “socialist”, “capitalist” worlds, through which many times civilians try to escape.
The fortress is located on a high hill, at the crossing point of the Morava and Danube 🌊

It is a very picturesque place with its own special aura, which is supported by ancient legends.
According to one of them, the owner of the castle fell in love with a noble girl and took her to his castle Devin. The relatives of the beloved were against their union and tried to separate the couple. The girl, left without her beloved, took her own life by throwing herself from one of the towers.
Another legend is not so old and concerns the period when the country was still part of Czechoslovakia and followed the socialist way of life ⚒️ Dissatisfied with the country’s policy, one of the Slovaks took advantage of the proximity to the Austrian border and allegedly flew from the castle on a hang-glider to Austria.
Of course, legends are legends so that we can guess what is true and what is fiction. But in any case, they make this place even more atmospheric.
We advise you to visit the fortress if you are planning a trip to Slovakia.
