Crime rate in Slovakia

In many European rankings Slovakia is often among the safest countries in Europe 🌐

And Slovak crime reports are sometimes more like humorous stories, rather than crimes that make your blood run cold.

They steal a car with a pig in the passenger seat 🐖 A boa constrictor that escaped from the aquarium finds itself alone with the owner’s granddaughter 🐍 A vigilant citizen detains a robber before the police arrive with the help of … um … let’s call it intimate caresses.

Some serious crimes are rare in Slovakia.

Petty thefts, car thefts happen. But some Slovaks sometimes don’t even bother to close the car door.

The level of sexual offenses in Slovakia is also extremely low. That is why it is normal to meet a lonely girl late at night. It is no less calm here with regard to more global situations: serial murders, political crimes, terrorism.

But these are all empty words. Let’s look at the numbers.

It makes sense to consider the crime index rather than the total number of crimes. This makes it easier to compare. The index reflects the ratio of the number of crimes committed to the number of inhabitants.

The lower the index, the lower the crime rate.

📍 In the Slovak Republic, it is 29. And Slovakia ranks 28th in terms of safety among all countries.

📍 For example, Russia is ranked 52nd with a crime index of 40.

📍 Ukraine is in 82nd place with an index of 48.

Every year Slovak authorities set new goals and strategies to further reduce crime. So who knows, maybe in a couple or three years we will be in the top 20 or 10 safest countries in the world 🙃
