Hiking in the countryside. What are the rules in Slovakia?

To live in Slovakia and not to go hiking, not to admire the natural beauties is a big omission 🏕️

The Slovak Republic has the richest forests and amazing natural areas. Mountains, rivers, lakes, diverse natural and flora world ☘️

But there are special rules that are important for every tourist to know. They are designed to preserve and protect nature from human interference.

There are 5 degrees of nature and landscape protection in Slovakia.

What does that mean ❓

🔸 There are special maps that show you what degree of protection the area you are in belongs to.

🔸 The higher the degree, the more restrictions are placed on you.

For example, camping is forbidden in Degrees 3 to 5, and travelling is only possible during daylight hours – from dawn to dusk. In areas with Degrees 1 and 2 of protection you can stay, but in specially organised areas – camping or bivouac ⛺

There are some general rules of thumb.

📍 It is not allowed to leave litter behind. The area of your temporary stay must be cleaned thoroughly.

📍 Bonfires may only be lit in authorised areas. These are usually marked with signs.

📍 It is forbidden to capture and kill animals in their natural habitats, unless they pose a threat to your life or you have special permission to do so.

📍 Mountain climbers should be aware that you can only walk on hiking trails. If you plan another route, you will have to hire a professional guide.

This brings a certain amount of hassle for hikers. But on the other hand, it also ensures safety not only for nature but also for hikers.

And do you think such restrictions are correct? And will your holiday in such conditions be more or, on the contrary, less comfortable🤔
