Covid-19 brought its adjustments to the work of some institutions. Therefore, Slovakia has relaxed measures regarding the stay of foreigners.
If you entered Slovakia legally (visa or visa-free) but have not yet obtained a residence permit, you have the right to stay in the country for up to one month after the crisis situation is lifted.
At the moment, the state of emergency in the Slovak Republic has been extended until March 19 ![]()
If your residence permit or residence permit expires during a crisis situation or within one month after it has been canceled, you should not worry. You will be able to renew everything within two months after the end of the crisis period.
If you have a 5-year residence permit or permanent residence permit that is about to expire, but you are abroad during a crisis situation, there is no reason to worry.
You can submit your documents to a Slovak diplomatic or consular mission (embassy/general consulate) outside Slovakia ![]()
If you are unable to apply for a residence permit, residence permit or extension during a crisis situation, the police will accept the necessary documents even if they are older than 90 days.
This is possible if 2 conditions are met:
– the collected documents must not be older than 90 days at the time of the crisis situation,
– you have not left Slovakia before submitting your application.
If you have a residence permit for business purposes and need to apply for renewal next year, you may be exempted from providing the minimum profit income this year
You only need to document that your business has been affected by the crisis situation.
