Did you know about Slovakia’s capital city that….

“Do you want me to tell you a story? Why? Because your city is a fairy tale!” – That was the response of G. H. Andersen when the people of Bratislava asked him to write a fairy tale about their city ✨

Perhaps the writer’s words are just a legend invented by Slovaks. But the fact that Bratislava is really worth seeing is a fact!

And today we offer to get to know this city even closer 😉

🏰 Bratislava is located near the borders of 2 countries at once – Hungary and Austria. And the distance to Vienna is only about 60 kilometers.

🏰 In its historical past, the city has changed 5 names and was the capital of Hungary, where Hungarian kings were crowned.

🏰 If you decide to view Bratislava from above, you will see that many streets in the Old Town form a right angle when turning. And this is no coincidence!

The arrangement was devised for security reasons 🛡️ This layout served as a barrier to cannon fire and prevented enemy troops from reorganizing.

🏰 There are quite a few unusual monuments in the Slovak capital. The “Man at Work” is a bronze figure looking out of a sewer manhole. It is also known as the “Plumber’s Monument” or simply “the observer”.

🏰 Bratislava’s Carlton Hotel was designed by Thomas Andrews, the creator of the Titanic 🚢 But unlike the most famous liner, the hotel is still thriving today.

🏰 Bratislava hosts many interesting events throughout the year: fairs, festivals, costume parades and performances. That is if we don’t include all kinds of exhibitions, theatrical and musical premieres.
