Pregnancy allowances are payments designed to cover pregnancy-related expenses (medicine, food, clothing) ![]()
Foreigners can also claim pregnancy allowance:
having a Slovak residence permit,
who are insured for incapacity for work and who have paid tax for at least 270 days in the last two years prior to childbirth,
of course, the fact that the pregnancy has been confirmed by a doctor.
This benefit is paid 34 weeks from the date of entitlement to maternity benefit. The amount is calculated in a complicated way. Tentatively, the monthly allowance is approximately 75% of the salary.
From April 2021, another type of maternity benefit will be introduced for working women and students. Payments will be accrued after the end of the 12th week of pregnancy.
The amount of benefits will be 15% of the daily assessment base (annual income divided by the number of working days). But it is stipulated that the benefit must not be less than 10% of the maximum daily assessment base (215.5 €/month).
A stipend of 200 €/month for pregnant trainees will be awarded from the 1st week of pregnancy.
Family and motherhood in Slovakia are given special attention. It is not only about the material security of a woman during pregnancy.
As early as September 2020, 10,000 € were allocated for special programs, trainings to educate young mothers, maintain a healthy microclimate in family relationships and strengthen the bond between generations.
There are other allowances: maternity, child, parental allowance, child maintenance tax bonus.
