Filling out and submitting a visa application to Canada and USA

Due to military actions in Ukraine, many European countries accept refugees from Ukraine and provide them with temporary asylum. In March 2022 Canada and the USA simplified their visa programs specifically for Ukrainians, and now all citizens of Ukraine can obtain a visa to Canada or the USA under the simplified program – Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET).

Previously, in order to obtain such visas, for example to Canada, you had to know English or French perfectly well, be a good specialist in a narrow field for the employer to make a call to work. Now the governments of these countries have made advances to the people of Ukraine, and simplified these programs.

You do not need to know the language and narrow specialization to get a visa. If you had a dream to immigrate to Canada or the United States, now is the time to make that dream come true. The application is submitted online. All citizens of Ukraine, who are both in Ukraine and in other countries, can apply for a visa. Already having temporary asylum status in another country does not prevent you from applying for a visa.

Although the requirements for applying for a visa are lowered, the procedure itself takes a long time, requires knowledge of the English language, experience and competence in this field. After all, after rejection, there will be no second chance. It is better to trust in this matter to professionals. Our company now offers services to help you fill out and apply for a visa to Canada and the United States. And we can also accompany you to the biometrics at the Canadian Embassy in Austria.

Applications for the CUAET emergency program are accepted from all Ukrainians, including those who are outside the country. Priority may be given to applicants who are in Ukraine or have recently left it, but in any case, all citizens of Ukraine have the opportunity to obtain a permit to enter Canada.

The CUAET program only allows citizens of Ukraine to apply. Exceptions are their immediate relatives – spouses, children and grandchildren – who can also come to Canada from Ukraine, even if they have citizenship of another country.

The expected turnaround time for CUAET applications is about 14 days. Once you receive a positive decision, undergo biometrics and obtain a visa, you can fly to Canada immediately. This time frame may seem unreasonably long, given the active hostilities in Ukraine and the fact that many countries issue visas in a matter of days. Nevertheless, it should be remembered that Canadian visa applications have always taken quite a long time to process; processing times have usually exceeded one month, and have often been as long as two to three months or even longer.

Formally, the CUAET program has no quotas and can be used by literally all Ukrainians without restrictions. Nevertheless, it became clear that the very implementation of the program involves a kind of selection mechanism: the complexity of the online portal will automatically eliminate the situation where a huge number of applications will be submitted simultaneously. Each application will take some time to prepare; the process of taking biometrics and obtaining a visa also requires time, expense and effort.

In addition, Canada obviously does not plan to proactively remove Ukrainians from Europe by special flights – this means that the flight will be paid for by the refugees at their own expense.
